Bird Watching and Wildlife Viewing

The trails and viewing platforms located throughout Second Marsh and adjacent areas provide visitors with an opportunity to explore the unique wetland environment through bird watching or wildlife viewing.

305 bird species have been observed at Second Marsh Wildlife Area and at adjacent wildlife areas. Of these, 106 breeding species of birds have been documented for the area with some of these species considered regionally rare, provincially rare or uncommon.

In addition to birds, 32 species of mammals, 8 species of reptiles, 10 species of amphibians, and 57 species of fish have been recorded in the Second Marsh and McLaughlin Bay area. While no official species total has been determined for the invertebrates, certainly hundreds would be included.
