You can donate to the Love the Marsh! Campaign by purchasing original watercolour and acrylic paintings by local Oshawa artist Terry Gill.
Terry’s substantial donation of original art from his “Impressions of Nature” collection will see 75% of the proceeds going to Friends of Second Marsh in support of our interpretive, educational and stewardship services at Second Marsh and the McLaughlin Bay Wildlife Reserve.
Artist Terry Gill
Terry Gill studied Forestry at Lakehead University. He was a member of the Tillsonburg Juvenile All-Ontario Championship Hockey team in 1957, and then became a long-time forward for the Tillsonburg Mavericks, the farm team of the NHL’s New York Rangers. In 2004, Terry was inducted into the Tillsonburg Hockey Hall of Fame.
Terry Gill is currently fighting a new battle now, diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer two years ago. He gives credit to Second Marsh’s healing qualities where a man suffering from anxiety and depression, can just sit, look and listen to nature. Terry presently lives in Livita Centennial Retirement Residence in Oshawa.
A message from Terry:
“I dedicate my paintings to the healing of our environment. It is crucial that we honour the earth as sacred, protect our air and water; our lands, forests, and oceans; our wildlife; our children’s future; and our planet’s climate. I try to express that love of nature in my “Impressions of Nature.”

Terry’s love for the outdoors is apparent in his work, and he gives his imagination absolute freedom. He is a self-taught artist who loves to share his joy and enthusiasm with others.
Original Paintings
All of Terry’s paintings are originals and are inspired by, and depict, nature and the environment. Art transformed Terry’s life in a remarkable way. In a world that often seemed detached from its roots, he stumbled upon his true calling while searching for meaning in his life. His sanctuary, teacher, and muse became nature with its timeless beauty and wisdom.
Terry invites us to embark on a sensory journey through his artworks. Every brushstroke is an expedition, each colour blend an adventure into the unknown. A once-blank canvas now reflects the vibrant spirit of nature. It is as though he is chasing the very essence of nature itself, not knowing what wonders await until the final stroke is made.
Terry’s art is much more than just a personal journey; it is a statement of the profound connection between all life and nature. With each piece he illustrates the fragility and resilience of the Earth, inviting viewers to consider their own role within the ecosystem. Healing the environment is not just a noble endeavour, but an urgent necessity. The vitality of all life depends on the well-being of the natural world, and Terry aspires to ignite a spark in others through his art.
