Friends of Second Marsh (FSM) is a registered not-for-profit charitable organization dedicated to encouraging the protection and appreciation of Second Marsh and our natural heritage system; to promoting a healthy environment through education, communication; and developing partnerships and fostering connections with all sectors of the community.
Since the early 1970’s, FSM (formerly the Second Marsh Defense Association) has provided leadership to the community-based movement that secured the future of Second Marsh.
FSM success has been consistently demonstrated through leadership and the responsible carrying out of numerous projects and programs throughout the years. It is this success that led to FSM becoming responsible for the delivery of all educational, interpretative and stewardship programs at Second Marsh in accordance with the Second Marsh Management Plan. This Plan is overseen by a management committee and includes representatives from the City of Oshawa, Ducks Unlimited Canada, the Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority and FSM.
FSM is grateful for the many community organizations, volunteers, businesses and all levels of government that have partnered on rehabilitation/restoration programs; events/festivals; trails and signage; education; operations; and stewardship initiatives at Second Marsh.
FSM looks forward to strengthening existing relationships and creating new relationships as it fulfills its mandate to maintain and improve the ecological integrity of the Marsh and shares its future vision for a Great Lakes Wetlands Centre.
